SAHT Hallet Street

ADELAIDE, SA

Phillips/Pilkington Architects won a design competition to design and document six row houses at 5 Hallett Street, Adelaide. The site had severe size constraints and despite the on-site parking requirement being waived the challenge was to fit six 2 bedroom units, a maximum of two stories high, on a site of 460 square metres. The houses were oriented in a north/south direction to maximise passive heating and sun control. In addition to the north orientation the development also incorporates many other environmental responses. The design is sympathetic to the surrounding palette of materials and incorporates face blockwork, corrugated steel sheet, plywood panels and painted fibre cement sheet.
