Adelaide Townhouse,
1997 - 1999
A modern update for a 1980 competition (and RAIA) award winning townhouse - part of five designed by Guy Maron. Attention was focussed on maximising a sense of space and light from the internal courtyard and giving the building a fresh face to McLaren Street. The courtyard has been landscaped and opens to the Study/Office and Living/Dining/Kitchen via cafe style bi-fold doors. Two small existing bathrooms were knocked together to form a functional bathroom/Laundry space enabling the demolition of the existing Laundry. The new facade incorporates Colorbond ‘Mini-Orb’ sheeting, sympathetic in colour to the other row houses and incorporates new windows with opening louvres, brightly coloured services/meters and steel columns. A chainmesh fence provides transparency and security.
This project won the Adelaide City Council prize from Adelaide and an Award of Merit from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
