McCormick Centre for the Environment, Renmark, 2001 -2002 Located in Renmark, the McCormick Centre for the Environment is an environmental and education centre showcasing the Bookmark Biosphere project, part of the UNESCO Man and the Environment project. The centre includes tourism displays, tour desk and amenities, a 100 seat lecture hall, a wet laboratory for research and use by local schools and a catering kitchen for functions. The building received a substantial grant from the Australian Greenhouse Office for the installation of photovoltaic cells which power the centre’s evaporative cooling. The environment centre showcases environmental technologies and appropriate building practices for South Australia’s dry inland climate. This project won two Australian Timber Design Awards.
