PORT AUGUSTA STERILE INSECT PRODUCTION FACILITY, SA
Phillips/Pikington Architects completed the Sterile Insect Production Facility in Port Augusta in 2017, a facility which is the first of its kind in Australia. This national facility breeds sterile male Q-Flys for the whole of Australia which when released at a fruit fly outbreak site, eradicate the colony. It is a key component of the continuing fight for bio-security. The building form and landscape celebrate their arid location and suggest an alternative to the shed construction of this semi-industrial precinct.
